Ten Rajya Sabha members have been elected unopposed to statutory bodies, including governing bodies of seven AIIMS institutes, after the number of candidates nominated matched the number of vacancies. The Rajya Sabha Secretariat declared the candidates duly elected without a poll.

The complete list of 10 MPs elected to the statutory bodies is: Gulam Ali AIIMS Awantipora; Ashok Kumar Mittal AIIMS Bathinda; Rajneesh Kumar Agrawal AIIMS Bhopal; Birendra Prasad Baishya AIIMS Guwahati; Sat Paul Sharma AIIMS Vijaypur; I S Inbadurai AIIMS Madurai; Madan Rathore AIIMS Jodhpur; Lahar Singh Siroya Central Silk Board; Sikander Kumar Council of the National Institutes of Food Technology, Entrepreneurship and Management; and Rekha Sharma National Assisted Reproductive Technology and Surrogacy Board.

The seven AIIMS institutions are among the country’s national-level medical institutions, and parliamentary representation in their governing structures provides a formal link between Parliament and the administration and oversight of these institutions. AIIMS governing bodies include parliamentary representation, reflecting the institutions’ statutory status and public accountability.

The election was uncontested not because voting was waived arbitrarily, but because the nomination process produced exactly as many candidates as there were available seats. Under the election procedure, when candidates do not exceed vacancies after the nomination and withdrawal stages, the candidates can be declared elected without polling.

The appointments cover AIIMS institutions in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, giving the Rajya Sabha representation across multiple regions.

In separate notifications, the Secretariat also declared Sukhendu Sekhar Ray and Tiruchi Siva elected to the Committee on Public Accounts, Mohammed Nadimul Haque to the Committee on Public Undertakings, and 10 members to the Committee on Welfare of Other Backward Classes.
