10 Pistols Seized as Punjab Police Dismantles Cross-Border Arms Smuggling Network
Punjab Police has busted a suspected cross-border arms smuggling network in Amritsar and arrested four people, recovering 10 sophisticated pistols along with live cartridges during the operation, officials said on Saturday.
According to preliminary investigations, the arrested accused were allegedly operating under the directions of a foreign-based arms smuggler and were involved in receiving illegal weapon consignments through cross-border routes. The weapons were reportedly intended for further distribution among criminal elements in the region.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav shared details of the operation through a post on X, stating that the police action had exposed a network involved in the illegal supply of firearms.
A case has been registered at Chheharta police station in Amritsar under relevant sections, and further investigation is underway to identify the wider network, trace the source of the weapons, and uncover possible links with other criminal groups.
Police officials are also probing the accused’s communication channels, their alleged foreign connections, and the routes used for transporting the illegal arms into Punjab. Further arrests are likely as the investigation progresses.
