1,076 Indians Deported from US So Far in 2026, Says MEA

A total of 1,076 Indian nationals have been deported from the United States to India so far in 2026 , the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Friday, highlighting ongoing cooperation between the two countries to address illegal migration while safeguarding legitimate mobility channels.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 3,567 Indians were deported from the US during 2025 , reflecting the scale of immigration enforcement measures being undertaken by American authorities.

The deportations come amid a broader crackdown on undocumented migrants by the administration of US President Donald Trump , which has made immigration enforcement a central policy priority. Jaiswal said India and the US remain in close contact on issues related to deportation, migration, and mobility.

“Discussions regarding migration and mobility are underway between the two sides. The focus is on how to crack down on and curb illegal migration, while simultaneously ensuring that it does not adversely affect legal migration,” he said.

The issue has gained increasing prominence in bilateral engagements as both countries seek to dismantle human trafficking and illegal migration networks while facilitating the movement of students, professionals, and skilled workers through lawful channels.

The latest figures underscore the changing landscape of global migration policy , where governments are balancing stricter border controls and enforcement measures with the economic and social benefits of legal migration.
