11 Members Of Inter-State ‘Korai Gang’ Arrested In Jharkhand’s Gumla, Gold And Arms Seized

Police in Jharkhand’s Gumla district have arrested 11 members of the Odisha-based ‘Korai Gang’ allegedly involved in recent gold robberies targeting jewellery shops in Palkot and Ghaghra, officials said.

The arrests came after police received information about six to seven suspected criminals near a brick kiln on Bilingbira Road under Palkot police station. An SIT led by Basia SDPO Shivshankar Marandi raided the spot and arrested seven suspects.

Police recovered 69.9 grams of gold, 1.43 kg of silver, Rs 1.70 lakh in cash, three country-made firearms and 11 cartridges of different calibres. Seven mobile phones and two master keys, allegedly used to open motorcycle storage compartments and break locks, were also seized.

During questioning, the seven accused allegedly gave information that helped police trace four more suspects. According to Gumla Superintendent of Police Harish Bin Zaman, two of the four were allegedly linked to the Palkot robbery and two to the Ghaghra robbery.

Nine of the arrested men are from Purbakote in Korai block of Odisha’s Jajpur district. They were identified as R Arjun alias Awla Arjun, Akshay Kabadi, Yeshu Das, Kishun Das, Awla Shekhar, Arjun Das, Michael Sawan, Manoj Das and Bhola Das.

The other two accused are Karan Netam from Mahasamund, Chhattisgarh, and Mekla Yeshu from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

Police said the gang has operated across state borders and was allegedly involved in theft, snatching and robbery.

The SIT included officers from several police units in Gumla, including Chainpur SDPO Shruti, Gumla SDPO Suresh Prasad Yadav and officers from Basia, Sisai, Palkot and Ghaghra.

Police are now carrying out more raids to find other members of the gang who are still on the run.
