Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has surpassed Kylian Mbappe to become the highest-scoring teenager in UEFA Champions League history, reaching the milestone with a goal in his side's 3-0 victory over Aston Villa on Tuesday night.

The 19-year-old winger opened the scoring in the seventh minute at Spotify Camp Nou after capitalising on a defensive error. He curled the ball past goalkeeper Zion Suzuki to register his 14th Champions League goal, moving ahead of Mbappe's previous teenage record of 13 goals.

Raphinha extended Barcelona's advantage with a second-half brace as the Spanish champions secured a comfortable victory. The defeat marked Aston Villa's first loss in the Champions League league phase, while Barcelona provisionally climbed to second place in the standings.

Yamal achieved the record in just 37 appearances in the competition, further strengthening his reputation as one of football's most promising young talents. He also holds several other Champions League records, including being the youngest player to start a main-stage match, score a goal, provide an assist and find the net in a semi-final.

The Barcelona youngster has also scored the most goals in the competition before turning 18 (five) and 19 (11). However, he no longer holds the record as the youngest player to feature in the knockout stages, with Max Dowman surpassing him earlier this year.

Meanwhile, former record-holder Mbappe, who plays for Real Madrid, has scored 72 Champions League goals overall and remains among the competition's most prolific players.

Yamal's latest achievement comes after an impressive start to the season. He finished third in the Ballon d'Or rankings, behind Harry Kane and Mbappe.

In 15 appearances across all competitions this season, Yamal has scored 13 goals and provided 11 assists, underlining his growing influence in Hansi Flick's Barcelona squad.
