The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Nellore district branch has earned a major honour for its humanitarian work, with Nellore District Collector Himanshu Shukla receiving a Gold Medal in recognition of the branch’s achievements and service initiatives.

The award was presented by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeer at the annual general body meeting of the Indian Red Cross Society, Andhra Pradesh, held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Monday. Shukla, who also serves as president of the IRCS Nellore district branch, accepted the honour on behalf of the district unit.

The recognition follows the branch’s strong performance in expanding its membership and strengthening blood donation services across the district. So far, the Nellore unit has enrolled 2,097 life members, reflecting its growing network of people associated with the organisation’s humanitarian activities.

Blood donation has emerged as another major area of focus for the district branch. Through camps organised in different parts of Nellore, the IRCS has collected 15,747 units of blood, helping build a crucial supply for patients who require blood during medical emergencies.

The Gold Medal recognises the branch’s efforts to expand the reach of blood donation programmes, bring more people into the organisation as life members and improve the implementation of its wider service initiatives.

The honour has been welcomed by district officials, Red Cross members and volunteers, who said the recognition reflects the collective contribution of those involved in the organisation’s activities across Nellore.

The award is expected to further encourage the district branch to strengthen its humanitarian outreach and continue its efforts to support people in need through organised community service.
