Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to release the latest installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Saturday, transferring ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of 9.44 crore farmers across the country. The move reinforces the Centre’s continued focus on strengthening rural incomes and providing financial stability to farming households.

Launched in 2019 , the PM-KISAN scheme has emerged as one of India's largest direct benefit transfer programmes. Under the initiative, eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually , distributed in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. The amount is credited directly to beneficiaries through Aadhaar-linked bank accounts, ensuring transparency and reducing leakages in the delivery process.

With the release of this installment, the total amount transferred under the scheme is expected to cross ₹4.46 lakh crore , highlighting the programme’s growing reach and significance in India's agricultural sector. Notably, women farmers have been among the major beneficiaries, receiving more than ₹1.01 lakh crore since the scheme's inception.

The PM-KISAN initiative excludes certain categories, including institutional landholders, income tax payers, serving or retired government employees above specified ranks, and pensioners drawing higher pensions. The objective is to ensure that assistance reaches small and marginal farming families who depend heavily on agriculture for their livelihoods.

The impact of the scheme is visible across states. In West Bengal , around 45.35 lakh farmers are set to receive approximately ₹907 crore under the latest installment. The financial assistance is expected to help farmers meet cultivation expenses, purchase agricultural inputs, and manage household needs during crucial farming periods.

Officials say PM-KISAN forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen the agricultural economy through measures such as crop insurance, rural infrastructure development, and improved market access. Together, these initiatives aim to enhance farm incomes, reduce financial vulnerabilities, and build greater resilience within India's rural communities.

As millions of farmers prepare to receive the latest transfer, the scheme continues to serve as a crucial financial support system, helping ensure that government assistance reaches beneficiaries swiftly and directly.
