Around 2,000 artists from 126 districts affected by Naxal violence will come together at Gujarat’s Kevadia for this year’s Ekta Diwas celebrations on October 31, highlighting India’s cultural diversity and the journey of conflict-hit communities towards peace.

Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan announced the special programme on Wednesday, saying the annual celebrations marking the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel will feature an expanded parade, cultural performances and several new initiatives. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the event.

A major focus this year will be the country’s fight against armed Naxalism and the contribution of security forces to restoring peace in affected regions. Personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), central police organisations and state police forces will participate in the parade.

As the contingents march past the Prime Minister, LED screens will display short films showcasing their achievements and their role in maintaining peace and security in areas affected by Naxal violence.

The cultural programme will bring together approximately 2,000 performers representing 126 districts that have experienced the impact of Naxalism over the years. Their participation is intended to highlight the resilience of communities that have endured violence and the role of cultural expression in promoting national integration.

The celebrations will also feature a theatrical presentation of “Anandamath”, the renowned work by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee. Another cultural programme will showcase people who have settled in Gujarat after moving from different parts of the country, reflecting India’s diverse cultural traditions.

The annual event aims to honour the contributions of security personnel while highlighting the transition of violence-affected regions towards peace and development.

The celebrations will also promote tourism in Kevadia, home to the Statue of Unity, the world’s tallest statue, dedicated to Patel, independent India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister. The surrounding region has emerged as a major tourist destination, offering visitors several attractions beyond the iconic monument.
