The 2027 ODI World Cup Qualifier will be held from February 22 to March 23, 2027, marking a crucial stage in the road to cricket's biggest 50-over tournament. While the International Cricket Council (ICC) has confirmed the dates, the host venue is yet to be announced.

Under the new qualification format introduced by the ICC in July 2026, the winner of the 10-team Qualifier will secure a direct place in the 14-team ODI World Cup group stage. The teams finishing second, third and fourth will advance to the Super Series, where they will compete for the final place in the 12-team main stage, with only the top-ranked team progressing.

The 2027 ODI World Cup is scheduled to take place from October 4 to November 21, 2027, across 12 venues in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

The Qualifier will feature the two lowest-ranked Full Member nations in the ODI rankings, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, as of September 30, 2026. They will be joined by the top four teams from the Cricket World Cup League 2 and the top four sides from the World Cup Qualifier Playoff.

The eight-team Qualifier Playoff will include the bottom four teams from League 2 and the top four teams from the Challenge League, cricket's third-tier competition. The top four finishers in the Playoff will qualify for the main World Cup Qualifier. The Challenge League itself consists of 12 teams split into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Playoff.

Meanwhile, the West Indies cricket team face another anxious qualification battle. Currently 10th in the ODI rankings, they have only two matches remaining against India national cricket team before the September 30 rankings cut-off. Their hopes of automatic qualification also depend on the outcome of the Afghanistan national cricket team versus Ireland cricket team ODI series. A strong showing by Ireland, combined with two wins over India, could keep West Indies in the top eight. However, if Afghanistan win the series, West Indies are likely to enter the qualification pathway.

The Caribbean side also missed the 2023 Cricket World Cup after a dramatic Super Over defeat to the Netherlands national cricket team in the Qualifier, making the upcoming campaign another pivotal moment in their quest to return to the World Cup stage.
