A 21-year-old man has been detained for allegedly killing his father during a domestic dispute and attempting to conceal the crime by dismembering the body, police said on Monday.
The victim was identified as Manvendra Singh (50) , while the accused is his son Akshat Singh (21) . According to police officials, the incident took place in the early hours of February 20 , following a heated argument between the father and son at their residence.
Police said the dispute erupted around 4.30 am , during which the accused allegedly shot his father in a fit of rage, leading to his death. Investigators revealed that in an attempt to destroy evidence and mislead authorities, the accused moved the body from the third floor of the house to the ground floor.
He allegedly chopped off several body parts and disposed of them at different locations, while hiding the remaining torso inside a drum kept in an empty room.
The crime came to light during the investigation of a missing person complaint registered at the Ashiana police station . During sustained questioning, the accused reportedly confessed to the killing and described how he tried to conceal the body.
Senior police officers and a forensic team were rushed to the spot after the confession. The crime scene is being thoroughly examined, and physical evidence is being collected to strengthen the case.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. Police said a case will be registered under relevant sections of the law for murder and destruction of evidence.
Further investigation is underway to establish the exact motive behind the dispute and to trace the disposed body parts. The accused will be produced before a court and police are expected to seek his remand for detailed interrogation.
