26 Firearms, Bullet-Proof Vest Seized in Joint BSF-Police Operation Along Indo-Pak Border
In a major breakthrough against cross-border arms smuggling, the Border Security Force (BSF) Punjab, in a joint operation with the Punjab Police, recovered an AK-47 rifle and 25 sophisticated pistols near the Indo-Pakistan border in Amritsar and arrested one suspect linked to the consignment.
The accused, identified as Rohan Khosla , a resident of Roopnagar Colony in Amritsar, was apprehended near the International Border during a coordinated operation conducted by the BSF and the State Special Operations Cell (SSOC), Amritsar.
According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav , preliminary investigations suggest that Khosla was acting on the instructions of an Australia-based associate , who allegedly shared the location of the weapons drop through social media applications.
Police recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle , 14 9mm pistols , and 11 .30 bore pistols manufactured by brands such as Norinco Star Mark, Glock, Zigana, Taurus and Walther. Authorities also seized 368 live cartridges , 48 magazines , and a US-made bullet-proof vest .
Officials said the weapons were believed to be part of a drone-dropped consignment retrieved near the Border Outpost (BOP) Shahpur. A Hyundai i20 car allegedly used by the accused to transport the weapons was also impounded.
Additional Inspector General of Police, SSOC Amritsar, Sukhminder Singh Mann , said intelligence inputs received from the BSF led to the operation. Investigators suspect that the accused was functioning as a local operative responsible for delivering the weapons to further recipients as directed by his overseas handler.
An FIR has been registered under the Arms Act, relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and the Bharatiya Vayuyan Adhiniyam. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify other members of the network and uncover the broader cross-border arms trafficking syndicate.
DGP Yadav described the seizure as a significant success in efforts to curb cross-border smuggling and dismantle terror-linked networks operating along the border.
