Twenty-seven minor children , including 14 girls , were rescued in Jharkhand's Palamu district after they were allegedly being taken to Sasaram in Bihar to work in paddy sowing, police said on Saturday.

The children, aged between 12 and 16 years , were rescued on Friday night from the Padwa and Nawabazar police station areas following a tip-off received by the authorities.

According to Vishrampur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Chiranjivi Mandal , the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Palamu , alerted the police and sought assistance in rescuing the children. Acting on the information, officers rescued 14 children from the Padwa area and 13 from the Nawabazar jurisdiction .

Following the rescue, the girls were shifted to the Sakhi One Stop Centre , while the boys were accommodated at a Children's Home . Authorities said the Child Welfare Committee has initiated legal proceedings in the matter.

Police confirmed that all the rescued children are residents of the Manika police station area in Jharkhand's Latehar district . Preliminary investigations suggest they were being transported to Bihar to work in agricultural activities during the paddy sowing season.

Officials have detained several individuals for questioning to ascertain their role in the alleged transportation of the minors. Palamu Deputy Commissioner Dilip Pratap Singh Sekhawat said a detailed investigation has been launched to determine whether the case involves child labour, trafficking, or other violations of law.

The probe is ongoing, and authorities are working to identify those responsible while ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of the rescued children.
