30 Conditions Set for Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Chhatron Ki Gunj’ Event in Pune
Pune Police have granted permission for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “Chhatron Ki Gunj” event scheduled for August 22, subject to 30 conditions aimed at ensuring security and maintaining law and order.
The programme will be held at the SSPMS College ground near RTO Chowk from 4:30 pm to 9:30 pm. Police estimates suggest that around 8,000 to 10,000 people may attend the event.
Among the conditions, organisers have been directed not to display any objectionable images, pictures or banners. They have also been asked to ensure that no activity during the programme hurts religious sentiments. The permission order places responsibility on the organisers for preventing any incident that could result in a law-and-order situation.
Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Mohan Joshi confirmed that permission had been granted and said the organisers would comply with all 30 conditions.
The police have mandated extensive security arrangements, including private security personnel, women guards and volunteers. Separate arrangements for men and women, sufficient entry and exit points, drinking water, toilets, parking facilities and fire-safety equipment must also be provided.
CCTV cameras covering the entire venue are required to remain operational, while emergency routes must be kept clear for police, medical and fire services. The use of drones for photography at the venue has been prohibited.
Organisers must also comply with Supreme Court directions on permissible noise levels and provisions under the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 and the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
The permission remains subject to a No-Objection Certificate from the traffic department. Police said it can be cancelled if any illegal activity affecting law and order is detected or if a dispute arises over the venue.
The event is being organised as an all-women programme dedicated to female students, focusing on education, safety, equality, competitive examinations and career opportunities.
