4.9-Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Northeast as Tremors Are Felt in Guwahati

A 4.9-magnitude earthquake jolted parts of Northeast India on Saturday afternoon, with tremors felt in Guwahati and adjoining areas of Assam.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at 4:01:19 pm IST, with its epicentre located about 3 km from Gyelpozhing in Bhutan. The quake originated at a shallow depth of 5 km and was recorded at latitude 27.163°N and longitude 91.240°E.

Tremors were also reported in neighbouring Bhutan. However, the initial reports did not confirm shaking across all eight northeastern states.

No deaths, injuries or structural damage were reported in the immediate aftermath. There were also no reports of major disruptions to transport, power or communication services.

No significant aftershocks had been confirmed in the initial reports.
