65 Million Views in Five Matches! Is Indian Football’s Digital Boom Finally Here?
The Indian Super League (ISL) 2026-27 season has made an impressive start in the digital space, with its first five matches generating 65 million YouTube views and an estimated 52 million viewers, signalling strong audience interest in Indian football.
The opening week, which began on October 10 with Bengaluru FC taking on Sporting Club Delhi, also saw 16.8 million engaged views, 120,000 new subscribers to the league’s YouTube channel and 1.6 million live interactions through chat messages and reactions.
The opening fixture alone recorded 8.9 million YouTube views across the reported formats. Peak concurrent viewership on the English-language feed reached 85,277, according to figures released by the event managers.
The biggest spike in simultaneous viewership on the English feed came during Inter Kashi’s match against Kerala Blasters FC, which registered a peak of 349,073 viewers. Meanwhile, the NorthEast United FC versus Mohun Bagan Super Giant fixture emerged as the most-viewed match on the English feed, accumulating 17 million views.
The same fixture also topped the Hindi feed, recording peak concurrent viewership of 100,660. Its performance highlighted the potential of multilingual coverage to connect the league with football fans across different regions and language groups.
The figures point to the growing importance of digital platforms in expanding the reach of Indian football. With matches available live and free on YouTube, viewers can follow the competition without needing a paid streaming subscription.
The league’s YouTube channel now has 2.7 million subscribers, following the addition of 120,000 subscribers during the opening week. The 1.6 million live interactions also indicate that viewers were not merely watching the matches but actively engaging with the coverage.
However, the reported figures are digital-platform metrics and do not, by themselves, establish a rise in stadium attendance, television viewership or the league’s overall commercial performance. Sustaining this early momentum throughout the season will be key to determining whether the opening-week surge translates into a broader and more durable expansion of Indian football’s audience.
