The Central government has granted Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA) registration to 72 voluntary organisations so far in 2026, allowing them to legally receive foreign donations for charitable and developmental work. The latest government data also highlights the Centre's broader push to strengthen transparency and accountability in the regulation of overseas funding for non governmental organisations (NGOs).

Among the organisations that received approval are RSS linked Seva Bharathi , Project Mumbai , and Hare Krishna Movement India , all of which are engaged in social welfare, education, healthcare, community development, and humanitarian initiatives.

Seva Bharathi , based in Kakinada , has been registered under the Economic, Educational and Social category. The organisation is known for operating blood banks, extending disaster relief, and supporting educational and community welfare programmes across various regions.

Project Mumbai , which functions on a Public Private People Partnership (PPPP) model, has also secured FCRA registration. The organisation focuses on creating social impact across Mumbai and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region through initiatives related to clean drinking water, mental health support, food distribution for vulnerable communities, accessibility, and inclusive urban development.

Another notable organisation on the list is Hare Krishna Movement India , which has been registered under the Religious (Hindu), Cultural, Economic, Educational and Social category. The organisation works to empower underprivileged children, particularly those living in rural communities, through nutrition, education, and welfare programmes.

The approvals come at a time when the Union government has introduced a series of amendments to the FCRA Rules, 2011 , aimed at improving oversight of foreign contributions received by NGOs and associations operating across India. The revised framework places greater emphasis on transparency, compliance, and accountability in the utilisation of overseas funds.

As part of these reforms, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also launched a revamped FCRA online portal , bringing all major services under a fully digital platform. Organisations can now complete processes such as registration, renewal, submission of annual returns, and other regulatory requirements online. The portal also incorporates the provisions introduced under the FCRA Amendment Rules, 2026 , making compliance more streamlined while strengthening monitoring and enforcement mechanisms.

According to the government, nearly 14,500 active FCRA registered organisations are currently functioning across the country. Every year, authorities process approximately 15,000 to 20,000 applications related to FCRA registrations and renewals, while receiving around 17,000 annual returns from registered organisations.

The latest approvals reflect the government's dual approach of facilitating legitimate foreign funded social work while ensuring stricter scrutiny and greater financial transparency in the non profit sector.
