₹7,345-Crore Musi Plan, TIMS Recruitment Among Key Cabinet Decisions
In a major policy push spanning education, healthcare, employment and urban development , the Telangana Cabinet on Thursday approved a series of decisions aimed at strengthening public services and accelerating the state's development agenda. The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar Telangana Secretariat , focused on improving educational outcomes, expanding healthcare infrastructure and advancing flagship development projects.
One of the Cabinet’s most significant decisions was the expansion of the state's school nutrition programme. Until now, free breakfast and midday meals were provided only to students in government schools. The government has now decided to extend the facility to nearly 1.5 lakh teachers, lecturers and support staff working in government schools and junior colleges across Telangana.
Officials believe that enabling teachers and students to dine together will promote social inclusion, equality and stronger classroom communities . The move is also expected to improve the overall learning environment and reinforce the government's efforts to strengthen public education through initiatives such as Mana Ooru–Mana Badi , which has upgraded infrastructure in thousands of government schools.
The Cabinet also approved a major recruitment drive in the healthcare sector, sanctioning 6,278 posts for the newly established Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) hospitals at Sanathnagar, LB Nagar and Alwal , along with the Warangal Super Speciality Hospital . The new positions include doctors, nurses, paramedical professionals and other healthcare personnel.
The government plans to develop TIMS hospitals into advanced tertiary-care institutions on par with Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) , reducing pressure on existing public hospitals and improving access to specialized medical services. To further support economically weaker patients, the state will facilitate treatment through Letters of Credit issued under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund .
In another major decision, the Cabinet granted administrative approval of ₹7,345 crore for Phase-I of the Musi Riverfront Development Project , one of Hyderabad’s most ambitious urban renewal initiatives. The first phase will cover nearly 21 kilometres up to Gandhi Sarovar , focusing on river rejuvenation, flood management, environmental restoration and the creation of public spaces along the river corridor. The tendering process is expected to begin shortly.
The Cabinet also decided to move the Supreme Court over the Centre’s Viksit Bharat Guarantee for Rozgar and Aajeevika Mission-Grameen (VBG-RAM-G) programme. The state government argued that the scheme was introduced without adequate consultation with states and raised concerns that it could dilute protections available under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) .
A Cabinet sub-committee headed by N. Uttam Kumar Reddy had earlier examined the issue and submitted a report. While Telangana has expressed reservations over the new framework, the government clarified that it would take necessary steps to ensure that rural workers do not lose access to employment opportunities.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy , Danasari Anasuya (Seethakka) and Adluri Laxman Kumar said the decisions reflect the government's commitment to delivering tangible benefits in key sectors while laying the groundwork for long-term growth and social development across Telangana.
