₹8,200-Crore SAEL Project to Boost UP's Solar Energy,Says Yogi Adityanath
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday announced that the state aims to increase its renewable energy generation capacity to 20,000 MW within the next two to three years, underscoring the government's focus on expanding green energy infrastructure.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of SAEL Industries' solar manufacturing plant in Jewar , the chief minister said Uttar Pradesh currently generates around 6,000 MW of electricity from renewable sources and is making rapid progress toward its ambitious target.
Adityanath highlighted the impact of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana , stating that over six lakh households have installed rooftop solar panels, reducing electricity bills by 50–60 per cent while collectively generating more than 2,000 MW of solar power. He said the initiative has significantly reduced the state's dependence on thermal power generation.
Referring to recent geopolitical tensions in West Asia and disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz , the chief minister said the global energy crisis had reinforced the need for renewable energy. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's push for green energy with encouraging sustainable development.
The chief minister also said Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India's largest ethanol-producing state , contributing nearly 55 per cent of the country's ethanol output. He added that the state has the highest number of compressed biogas plants and plans to establish 100 more within a year to convert crop residue into clean fuel while boosting farmers' incomes.
Welcoming SAEL's ₹8,200-crore investment , Adityanath said the facility will manufacture 6 GW of solar cells and 5 GW of solar modules annually , strengthening domestic solar manufacturing, creating jobs, supporting MSMEs, and reducing dependence on imports.
