At least nine workers were injured after an explosion occurred inside a furnace chamber at a private steel plant in Jharkhand’s Ramgarh district on Sunday, officials said.

The incident took place in the afternoon at a plant in Murpa village, under the jurisdiction of the Kuju police outpost.

Chief Factory Inspector Manish Sinha said the workers suffered burn injuries after hot metal splashed onto them following the explosion in the furnace chamber.

“Workers sustained burn injuries after hot metal splashed following an explosion in the furnace chamber,” Sinha said.

Two workers who sustained critical injuries were referred to a private hospital in Ranchi for further treatment.

Following the incident, the factory inspector in Hazaribag was directed to conduct an inquiry and submit a detailed report at the earliest. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the furnace explosion and assess compliance with safety measures at the plant.

Further details on the condition of the injured workers and the cause of the explosion are awaited.
