AAP Alleges Rs 650 Crore Health Scam, Demands Delhi CM and Minister's Resignation
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the Delhi government , alleging a Rs 650 crore scam in the health department and demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Health Minister Pankaj Singh . The opposition party claimed that serious irregularities in medical procurement and laboratory testing contracts took place under the BJP-led administration and called for accountability from the state's top leadership.
Addressing a press conference, Delhi AAP chief Saurabh Bharadwaj alleged that the controversy stemmed from an outsourced laboratory testing tender floated in 2025. According to him, then Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Vandana Bagga had raised objections over alleged irregularities and was subsequently suspended after refusing to approve the tender.
Bharadwaj further claimed that Dr Rati Makkar , who succeeded Bagga as DGHS, also declined to clear certain tenders before opting for voluntary retirement. He alleged that it was only after Dr Vatsala Aggarwal assumed charge as DGHS that the purported Rs 650 crore health scam surfaced.
In a separate post on X, Bharadwaj also accused the Delhi government of submitting a false affidavit before a court regarding the functioning of the Next Gen Hospital ICU App . He further alleged that emergency helpline numbers promoted by the government were found to be non-functional during court proceedings, raising questions about the administration's claims on healthcare services.
Echoing the allegations, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh questioned the BJP government's handling of the matter and demanded the immediate resignation of both the chief minister and the health minister. He alleged irregularities in the procurement of bedsheets, portable X-ray machines, ORS packets and medicines , claiming these purchases caused losses worth nearly Rs 650 crore to the public exchequer.
Singh also questioned why central investigative agencies had not initiated any action despite the seriousness of the allegations.
As of Saturday evening, the BJP government had not issued any official response to the accusations made by the AAP. The allegations have intensified the political confrontation in the national capital, with the opposition demanding an independent probe and accountability over the alleged irregularities in Delhi's healthcare system.
