AAP Govt Confirms ₹1,000 Monthly Aid For Women In Punjab From July 1
The Punjab government led by the Aam Aadmi Party has announced that it will begin disbursing ₹1,000 per month to eligible women beneficiaries from July 1, fulfilling a key pre-election promise made in 2022.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said women registered under the state’s women financial assistance scheme will start receiving direct benefit transfers into their bank accounts from the specified date. He confirmed that the programme has been structured with adequate budgetary support and will not be discontinued.
Under the scheme, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 per month , while women belonging to Scheduled Castes will receive ₹1,500 per month , reflecting a differentiated support structure aimed at enhancing welfare coverage.
The government stated that the scheme already covers a large base, with around 52 lakh women identified as beneficiaries , of whom 36 lakh have already been issued beneficiary cards . Officials indicated that remaining eligible applicants are in the process of verification and enrollment.
Eligibility criteria require women to be 18 years or older , registered as voters in Punjab, and holding Aadhaar cards reflecting residency in the state. However, several categories have been excluded, including serving and retired government employees , individuals working under Central or State governments, elected representatives such as MLAs and MPs, and spouses of current ministers or legislators.
The announcement reinforces the ruling party’s commitment to welfare-oriented governance and directly links the rollout to a major electoral commitment made by the Aam Aadmi Party during the Punjab Assembly elections.
Officials further emphasised that the direct benefit transfer model is intended to ensure transparency and minimise leakages. With the first tranche scheduled for July 1, the scheme is expected to become one of the largest women-focused cash transfer initiatives in the state.
