AAP Protests Against Parvesh Verma, Demands FIR Over Slap Incident

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday staged a sit-in outside the Vikaspuri police station, demanding an FIR against Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma over the alleged slapping of a 22-year-old man during a road inspection in west Delhi.

AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bharadwaj led the protest after meeting DCP (West) Hareshwar Swami. The party demanded that police register a criminal case against Verma and provide a copy of the FIR.

However, Delhi Police registered a non-cognisable report (NCR) against Verma based on a complaint by Sahib Singh, who alleged that the minister slapped him while he was recording the proceedings. The NCR was registered under Section 115 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pertaining to voluntarily causing hurt.

Under the current action, police cannot investigate the non-cognisable offence without permission from a magistrate. The latest reports indicate that the complaint against Verma has not been converted into an FIR.

The incident occurred during Verma's inspection of a newly laid road in Tilak Nagar. AAP MLA Jarnail Singh was present at the site and questioned the quality of the road after pulling out portions of the surface by hand. Sahib Singh was filming the proceedings when the alleged slapping incident took place.

Separately, police have registered an FIR against Jarnail Singh on a complaint from a PWD assistant engineer. The case relates to alleged obstruction of public servants during the inspection.

Verma has defended his conduct, alleging that AAP workers were obstructing government officials from performing their duties. He also claimed Sahib Singh was associated with AAP and had a previous criminal case.

The dispute subsequently escalated into a political confrontation, with AAP continuing to demand an FIR against Verma while defending Jarnail Singh.

Police have also received multiple complaints linked to the incident, including allegations involving supporters of both sides. The FIR against Verma remains a key demand of the AAP as the dispute continues.
