AAP Protests in Delhi, Demands FIR Against PWD Minister Over Alleged Slapping Incident

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday demanded an FIR against Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh over an alleged slapping incident during a road inspection in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar, raising questions over political accountability and police action.

AAP Delhi unit chief Saurabh Bharadwaj was detained by Delhi Police during the party’s protest. He said AAP workers were approaching the DCP office to seek action, questioning why a case had not been registered despite the alleged incident occurring in the presence of the SHO and being captured on video.

“When everything happened in front of the SHO and everything is on video, why has the FIR not been registered?” Bharadwaj told reporters, alleging police collusion.

AAP workers, along with local MLA Jarnail Singh, also demanded the minister’s resignation. Police said some protesters were detained and taken to Jaffarpur Kalan Police Station to maintain law and order.

The political controversy followed the emergence of a video on social media purportedly showing Parvesh Sahib Singh slapping a man who was recording the road inspection. The incident allegedly took place while the minister was inspecting a newly laid road.

Jarnail Singh had questioned the quality of the road work and pulled out portions of the road surface by hand. A man standing nearby was recording the proceedings when he was allegedly slapped, according to the video shared by the AAP MLA.

The episode has since triggered a wider dispute over accountability and law enforcement, with AAP questioning whether political office-bearers should face the same legal process as any other person accused of assault.

The demand for an FIR has also placed the police response under scrutiny. Bharadwaj alleged that the delay in registering a case despite the availability of video evidence raised concerns about impartial enforcement.

The incident is likely to remain a political flashpoint in Delhi, with the next steps depending on the police response and any legal proceedings arising from the allegations.
