Police on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old youth from Bela mandal for allegedly posting provocative messages on social media with the intention of disturbing communal harmony. The accused was taken into custody following a complaint from local residents, who raised concerns over objectionable content being circulated online.

According to police officials , the youth uploaded controversial posts aimed at inciting hatred and hostility between two communities. While the act appeared deliberate, officials said the exact motive behind the posts—whether personal, ideological, or politically driven—has not yet been established and remains under investigation. His mobile phone has been seized as part of the probe.

Police stated that such inflammatory content on social media can spread rapidly and lead to misunderstandings, heightened tensions, and threats to public peace. The risk is particularly high during sensitive periods such as municipal elections , when divisive content can disrupt the electoral atmosphere and law-and-order situation.

Officials noted that similar incidents of social media misuse have been reported in various parts of the country in the past, making this case part of a broader nationwide trend rather than an isolated incident. In view of the ongoing municipal elections , the police have intensified surveillance across the district and warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone found attempting to create unrest through provocative or hateful online posts.
