Adilabad RIMS to Emerge as Regional Super-Speciality Healthcare Hub

The Telangana government has intensified efforts to strengthen super-speciality medical services across its tribal districts, aiming to ensure that people living in Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Nirmal can access advanced treatment closer to home, reducing their dependence on hospitals in Hyderabad for specialised care.

At a high-level review meeting held at the Secretariat, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha assessed the progress of healthcare services, infrastructure development and ongoing projects in the three districts. The meeting, attended by MLAs, senior Health Department officials and district medical authorities, focused on improving the quality of treatment available in government hospitals and expanding access to specialised healthcare in remote tribal regions.

The minister reviewed the functioning of Adilabad RIMS, government medical colleges, district hospitals, Area Hospitals, Community Health Centres (CHCs), Primary Health Centres (PHCs) and sub-centres. Officials presented updates on doctor and nursing staff availability, infrastructure expansion, modern medical equipment, new hospital buildings and the rollout of speciality medical services. Legislators acknowledged that government hospitals have improved considerably in recent years due to increased recruitment of healthcare personnel but also pointed to infrastructure gaps in several underserved areas.

A key decision taken during the meeting was to introduce CT scan facilities in all Area Hospitals under the Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in a phased manner. The expansion of advanced diagnostic services is expected to improve emergency care for patients suffering from trauma, stroke and other critical conditions, while reducing the need to travel to district headquarters.

The government also plans to upgrade Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Adilabad, into a regional super-speciality referral centre. Cardiology and Nephrology services are already operational, with additional speciality departments planned to provide advanced treatment locally.

The minister also directed officials to remain vigilant against malaria, dengue, viral fevers and diarrhoeal diseases during the monsoon season by ensuring adequate stocks of medicines and organising medical camps in villages. He further announced that every mandal in the erstwhile Adilabad district has been allotted an ambulance and instructed officials to ensure uninterrupted 108 and 102 ambulance services. Special emphasis was placed on shifting high-risk pregnant women to hospital Birth Waiting Rooms well before their expected delivery dates to ensure safe maternal healthcare during the rainy season.
