Adilabad, Warangal Airports to Showcase Telangana’s Architectural Heritage

Telangana’s rich history, cultural heritage and architectural traditions should find a prominent place in the proposed airports at Adilabad and Warangal, as well as the upcoming Telangana Bhavan in Delhi, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials. He reviewed the proposed designs for the projects at a meeting on Tuesday and called for structures that reflect the state’s distinctive cultural identity while meeting modern infrastructure requirements.

Revanth Reddy instructed officials to study the architectural excellence of prominent heritage landmarks such as the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, Ramappa Temple and Pillalamarri before finalising the designs. He said the distinctive elements of these historic sites should be carefully examined and adapted, wherever appropriate, into the proposed structures.

The Chief Minister emphasised that the airport designs should showcase Telangana’s culture, traditional art, sculpture and architectural styles. The objective, he said, should be to create modern public infrastructure that also carries a strong visual connection to the state’s historical legacy.

Officials also briefed the Chief Minister on several logistical challenges involved in developing the airport sites. The discussions covered the relocation of electricity lines, streams, roads, BSNL lines and drinking water pipelines that could interfere with construction activities.

Revanth Reddy directed departments to construct roads along the airport boundary walls and connect them with nearby district, state and national highways to improve accessibility. He cautioned that independent execution of works by different departments could lead to coordination problems, delays and complications during construction.

He called for close coordination among all concerned departments and directed officials to complete the required works at a faster pace. The Chief Minister further stressed that planning should go beyond immediate requirements and incorporate future expansion and infrastructure needs so that the projects remain viable in the long term.

The Warangal airport project has also witnessed recent progress. On September 19, Revanth Reddy said the required land had been handed over to the Airports Authority of India, marking an important step towards realising the long-pending airport project.

Meanwhile, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy said the proposed Adilabad airport would serve both defence and civilian aviation requirements. He added that nodal officers would be appointed by the state government, Civil Aviation Ministry and Defence Ministry to coordinate efforts and accelerate the project.
