Aerocity Namo Bharat station to become largest multimodal hub in NCR
The Aerocity station near Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is being developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) as part of the Delhi–Gurugram–Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror (SNB) Namo Bharat corridor, which will connect Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi to Rajasthan. The station is expected to emerge as the largest multimodal transit hub in the National Capital Region, where air, metro, road, and semi high-speed rail connectivity will be integrated.
The 106-km corridor, including 16 stations, has been designed to significantly reduce travel times between Ghaziabad, Noida, Delhi, Manesar, and other NCR towns. The route has been planned with 71 km elevated and 35 km underground sections to ensure efficiency and speed. Interoperable features have been included to allow passengers to travel seamlessly across the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut, Delhi–Gurugram–SNB, and Delhi–Panipat–Karnal corridors without changing trains.
The semi high-speed regional train service, Namo Bharat, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 20, 2023, with a 17-km stretch between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot being launched. Currently, 55 km of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut corridor has been made operational, with the remaining section nearing completion. The Delhi–Gurugram–SNB and Delhi–Panipat–Karnal corridors are in the final stages of approval, and pre-construction activities have been commenced.
The Golden Line, a 25.82-km driverless corridor connecting Tughlaqabad to Terminal 1 of IGI Airport, is being constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and is scheduled to be completed by March 2026. The line will include 15 stations, and interchanges will be provided with the Airport Express Line, Yellow Line (Chhatarpur), and Violet Line (Tughlaqabad), further enhancing Aerocity’s connectivity.
Aerocity’s development has coincided with the establishment of Worldmark, a global business district being developed by Bharti Real Estate. The project, spread across four phases covering more than 20 million square feet, will include premium office spaces, retail, dining, and leisure facilities. Worldmark 1.0 has been made operational, Worldmark 2.0 is nearing completion, while Phases 3.0 and 4.0 are scheduled to be handed over between 2027 and 2032. The Mall at Worldmark is expected to be opened by 2027.
Officials have highlighted that Aerocity’s strategic location near IGI Airport, combined with the seamless integration of semi high-speed rail, metro, and road networks, positions it as a key hub for commuters and business activity. The corridors have been designed to enhance speed, safety, and comfort, transforming regional travel.
It was stated by Puneet Vats, CPRO of NCRTC, that “By ensuring speed, safety, and comfort, the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat corridor has become a vital lifeline for the region. Similar transformation is expected with the implementation of the Delhi–Gurugram–SNB and Delhi–Panipat–Karnal corridors. Aerocity is set to emerge as the region’s largest transit hub.”
It was added by S K Sayal, MD and CEO of Bharti Real Estate, “Connectivity, accessibility, and integrated infrastructure are the pillars of a modern business district. Aerocity, soon integrated with the Golden Line and Namo Bharat corridor, is set to become the country’s largest multimodal hub.”
Once operational, the Aerocity station will serve as a central node linking rail, metro, air, and road networks, and the NCR transit ecosystem will be strengthened while business, tourism, and commuter mobility are expected to be supported.
