A new weather system over the Bay of Bengal is set to intensify into Cyclone Murasu, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to several parts of southern and eastern India. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Bay of Bengal will develop into a depression before strengthening into a cyclonic storm.

The system is expected to move towards the west-central Bay of Bengal and approach the Andhra Pradesh coast around November 2. Coastal districts are likely to experience heavy downpours, thunderstorms and strong winds as the system advances.

Andhra Pradesh is likely to face the heaviest impact. Coastal districts could receive extremely heavy rainfall on November 2 and very heavy rain on November 3. Nellore, Prakasam, Bapatla, Guntur and Krishna are among the areas expected to receive heavy showers. Rayalaseema is also forecast to experience very heavy rainfall on November 2 and 3, raising the risk of waterlogging, flooding and crop damage.

Telangana is likely to receive heavy rainfall and thunderstorms between November 1 and 3. Gusty winds accompanying thunderstorms could disrupt normal activities, while intense showers may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Tamil Nadu, along with Puducherry and Karaikal, is expected to receive heavy rainfall on November 2 and 3. Thunderstorms and strong winds could affect coastal districts, while intense showers may disrupt transport and daily activities.

Kerala is forecast to receive heavy rainfall between November 1 and 3. Widespread showers and thunderstorms could affect several districts, with waterlogging and localised flooding posing concerns in vulnerable areas.

Karnataka is also likely to experience heavy rainfall across coastal and interior regions. Coastal Karnataka could receive heavy showers between November 3 and 5, while parts of South Interior Karnataka may experience heavy rain from November 2. North Interior Karnataka is also likely to receive heavy showers on November 3 and 4.

Odisha is expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on November 2, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. Coastal districts could experience rough weather as the system moves towards the eastern coastline.

Rainfall is also forecast in parts of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Bihar. These regions are likely to experience showers partly due to the remnants of Cyclone Arnab and other weather systems.

The fresh cyclone threat comes days after Cyclone Arnab damaged the Andhra Pradesh coastline.
