Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing is set to travel to China next week for major talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping , marking an important step in strengthening bilateral strategic engagement between the two neighbours.

The visit comes shortly after Min Aung Hlaing concluded his trip to India from May 30 to June 3 , his first overseas visit after assuming office earlier this year. During his stay, he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and assured that Myanmar’s territory would not be allowed to be used against India’s security interests.

According to the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Min Aung Hlaing will undertake a state visit to China from June 15 to June 19 . He is expected to hold discussions with Xi Jinping , Premier Li Qiang and other senior leaders on expanding cooperation across key sectors.

China described relations with Myanmar as long standing and friendly, highlighting the two countries as neighbours sharing a common future . It also noted that diplomatic ties have continued for 76 years, with steady growth in engagement over time.

Ahead of the visit, Myanmar Foreign Minister Tin Maung Swe visited Beijing and held talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi . The discussions focused on deepening cooperation and accelerating development efforts in Myanmar, which continues to face internal conflict and political instability.

In recent years, China has expanded its presence in Myanmar through major infrastructure and energy projects. These include strategic investments linked to access routes to the Bay of Bengal , underlining Beijing’s growing regional influence.

The upcoming visit is seen as part of Myanmar’s effort to balance relations with major regional powers while navigating internal challenges and shifting geopolitical interests.
