After Olympic Burnout, Swimmer Sajan Prakash Returns With One Dream: A CWG Medal
Veteran Indian swimmer Sajan Prakash is preparing for the final chapter of his competitive career with a clear objective: finish on the Commonwealth Games podium . The two time Olympian , who took a break after the Paris Olympics due to burnout, has made a determined comeback and will compete at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , beginning on July 23 , before turning his focus to the Aichi Nagoya Asian Games in September.
Sajan has already achieved the qualifying standard set by the Swimming Federation of India for the men's 200m butterfly , and believes he is capable of producing one last memorable performance. His target is to improve on his season's best of 1:57.09 and break into the 1:56 or even 1:55 range , a time that could put him in medal contention.
While a medal remains the ultimate goal, Sajan insists that delivering his personal best matters even more. He says his biggest satisfaction will come from knowing he gave everything in his final campaign.
To prepare for the Games, the 32 year old trained at high altitude in Spain's Sierra Nevada before moving to Edinburgh for a three week speed training camp to adapt to local conditions. His preparation has also included a fresh coaching partnership with former India swimmer and Asian Games medallist Sandeep Sejwal , whose experience has helped fine tune his approach.
Unlike earlier in his career, Sajan now places greater emphasis on recovery, nutrition, sleep, strength training and breath work alongside pool sessions. With experience guiding his preparation and one final opportunity ahead, the veteran hopes to conclude his remarkable journey by achieving the dream that has motivated him throughout his comeback: standing on the Commonwealth Games podium.
