Bollywood actor Aayush Sharma, brother-in-law of superstar Salman Khan, has allegedly received a threat email , triggering a detailed investigation by the Mumbai Crime Branch. The development comes days after actor Ranveer Singh received an extortion threat via WhatsApp voice note , raising serious concerns over the safety of film industry personalities.

According to police officials, the sender of the email to Sharma claimed to be associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang . Though Sharma has not lodged a formal complaint, investigators launched a probe after receiving intelligence inputs. Cyber teams found that the email was routed through Proton Mail and VPN services , complicating efforts to trace its origin. Experts are analysing server logs, IP trails and encrypted routing paths to establish the sender’s identity. Police sources indicated that the email allegedly contained a ransom demand , though the exact amount has not been officially disclosed.

In a separate incident earlier this week, actor Ranveer Singh received a threatening WhatsApp voice note demanding crores of rupees. Investigators confirmed that the message was sent using masked digital routing , suggesting a deliberate attempt to conceal the sender’s location and identity. Following the threat, police recorded statements from Singh’s associates and significantly tightened security outside his residence, deploying additional armed personnel.

Authorities are also probing potential links between these incidents and last week’s firing incident at Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu area, where unidentified assailants fired five rounds, triggering widespread alarm. Police arrested five accused and invoked provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, stating that the attack was executed on instructions from absconding gangster Shubham Lonkar, an alleged key operative of the Bishnoi network. Investigators also detained a weapons supplier who had allegedly posed as a garage mechanic.

Officials said the vehicle used in the firing was sourced from Pune and delivered to the shooters through a chain of intermediaries, pointing to a coordinated gang operation . Subsequent online threats issued by the gang further heightened security concerns.

Security agencies are now examining possible connections among the threat email, extortion attempt and the firing case, suspecting a broader campaign of intimidation targeting Bollywood figures. Surveillance across Mumbai has been intensified, and protection measures for several celebrities have been strengthened as police continue coordinated efforts to prevent any escalation.
