After Rs 53,894 Crore in Proposals, Odisha Prepares to Host India Chem 2027
Odisha will host India Chem 2027 after securing investment proposals worth Rs 53,893.51 crore at the 2026 edition of the industry event in Mumbai, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said.
Majhi announced the decision after discussions with the Central government and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), which agreed to the proposal. Details regarding the dates and venue of the next edition were not specified in the announcement.
At India Chem 2026, held over two days in Mumbai, Odisha signed nine memorandums of understanding (MoUs) involving proposed investments of Rs 51,443.51 crore and received four expressions of investment intent worth Rs 2,450 crore. The proposals are expected to generate 20,210 employment opportunities, according to the chief minister.
Among the major proposals, NLC India Ltd indicated an investment of around Rs 36,763.51 crore in the chemicals and power sectors. Larsen & Toubro (L&T) signed an MoU proposing an investment of Rs 8,100 crore.
During his visit, Majhi held 25 one-on-one meetings with business leaders and company representatives, including those from POSCO India, JSW and L&T, as well as firms based in the United States and the European Union. He said the discussions helped the state understand investor requirements and present the industrial facilities and opportunities available in Odisha.
The chief minister said the investment outreach was part of the state’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond its traditional metal-based industries and expand into chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics.
Odisha aims to develop an integrated industrial ecosystem covering metals, downstream metal industries, chemicals, petrochemicals and plastics. The proposed expansion is intended to attract further investments and strengthen manufacturing activity in the state.
Majhi also thanked Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister J P Nadda for supporting discussions with companies during the Mumbai visit.
The state’s upcoming hosting of India Chem is expected to provide another opportunity to engage investors and showcase its industrial potential. The investment figures announced at the 2026 event represent proposals and expressions of intent rather than completed investments.
