AI-Driven Dial 112 to Transform Emergency Response Across Telangana

Telangana Police has unveiled a next-generation AI-powered emergency response platform, bringing all critical public safety services under the single national emergency number 112. The new Telangana Emergency Response Support System (TG-ERSS) aims to significantly cut response times, improve coordination among agencies, and provide citizens with faster assistance during emergencies.

The platform was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) Dr. C.V. Anand at the Telangana Integrated Command and Control Centre (TGICCC) in Hyderabad. Senior officials, including Home Department Principal Secretary Shikha Goel and heads of key police and disaster response agencies, attended the launch.

The upgraded system integrates police, fire, ambulance, women's safety, child protection, and disaster management services under a single emergency helpline, in line with the Centre's Emergency Response Support System (ERSS) initiative. Speaking at the launch, DGP C.V. Anand said Dial 112 would serve as the first point of contact during emergencies, enabling faster call handling and seamless coordination among response agencies.

Powered by Artificial Intelligence, the platform filters duplicate calls, prioritises genuine emergencies, intelligently routes calls to the relevant department, and automatically dispatches the nearest patrol unit. It also features voice-to-text transcription, real-time dashboards, and advanced caller location tracking through Location-Based Services (LBS), Advanced Location Services (ALS), and Google Maps.

According to the DGP, average call processing time has been reduced from 190 seconds to 133 seconds, a nearly 30 percent improvement. Telangana currently records an average emergency response time of six minutes in urban areas, 15 minutes in rural areas, and 10 minutes and 30 seconds statewide, outperforming the national average.

The 24x7 TG-ERSS command centre is staffed by 164 trained personnel and handles nearly 18,000 emergency calls daily, dispatching around 7,500 incidents through a network of 1,860 patrol vehicles across 31 police units. Looking ahead, the Telangana Police plans to introduce AI-powered drones on a pilot basis in Hyderabad, Cyberabad, Malkajgiri, and Future City Commissionerates to assist in disaster response, law and order management, traffic incidents, and search-and-rescue operations. Urging citizens to remember 112, the DGP said a single call could make a crucial difference when every second counts.
