AIFF Makes Emotional Appeal as Tata Stands Firm on Jamshedpur FC's ISL Exit

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has made a heartfelt appeal to the Tata Group to reconsider its decision to withdraw Jamshedpur FC from the Indian Super League (ISL), calling the move a significant setback for Indian football.

AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey said the federation hopes the corporate giant will continue its association with top-tier football, stressing that Tata's contribution to the sport extends far beyond financial investment.

"We would be happy if Tata remains in football, especially in senior top-tier football. If an AIFF request can change their mind, we would like to appeal to them in the interest of the players and Indian football," Chaubey said. He also assured that the federation is willing to consider any suggestions from Tata to achieve the best possible outcome.

The appeal comes even after Tata Steel clarified that Jamshedpur FC's withdrawal was part of a long-term strategic shift aimed at returning to its core mission of grassroots football development. The company has maintained that the decision is unrelated to the uncertainty surrounding the ISL's commercial future and is unlikely to be reversed.

Despite Tata's firm stand, Chaubey expressed confidence that the decision was not driven solely by financial considerations. He said a company with Tata's legacy has always viewed sports as a platform for nation-building rather than profit-making.

Highlighting the group's immense contribution, Chaubey praised the Tata Football Academy (TFA), which has produced hundreds of footballers since its establishment in 1987. He described the academy as one of the strongest pillars of Indian football's youth development system.

Sharing a personal memory, the former India goalkeeper recalled his own days as a cadet at the academy and revealed that TFA had once faced the threat of closure in the early 1990s. However, outstanding performances by its junior teams in international tournaments convinced the management to continue investing in football.

Chaubey said the Tata Group has earned unparalleled respect for its sustained commitment to Indian sports and expressed hope that it would once again stand by Indian football by reconsidering Jamshedpur FC's exit from the country's premier league.
