Airport to Economic Corridor as Indore’s Aerocity Set to Boost Business and Jobs

Indore’s proposed Aerocity is poised to become an airport-led commercial hub, combining business, hospitality, residential activity and leisure close to Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport. The Madhya Pradesh government plans to develop it on about 11 hectares, roughly 500 metres from the airport, with an initial investment expectation of ₹500–600 crore. The project is also planned with direct connectivity to the Indore–Pithampur Economic Corridor, strengthening links between aviation, commerce and the region’s industrial base.

For businesses, the location could offer a major operational advantage. Companies would gain quick access to air travel for executives, clients and visitors, while offices and commercial spaces could benefit from proximity to a major transport gateway. Direct corridor connectivity could also make it easier to interact with industries and businesses in Pithampur, potentially encouraging offices, support services and other commercial investments around the Aerocity.

Travellers could benefit from a concentrated ecosystem of hotels, offices and residential facilities near the airport. Business visitors could stay close to meetings and flights, while tourists and other passengers could find accommodation and services without lengthy cross-city journeys. Such convenience could strengthen Indore’s appeal as a business and tourism destination.

The economic impact could extend beyond the initial investment. Construction would create demand for workers and contractors, while completed hotels, offices, housing and commercial facilities could generate sustained jobs in hospitality, retail, transport, security, maintenance, food services and property management. Rising business activity could also support smaller local enterprises and ancillary services.

The Aerocity’s strategic value lies in connecting two economic engines: Indore’s airport and Pithampur’s industrial ecosystem. Better integration could improve business mobility, attract private capital and support regional trade and services.

A separate 3.83-hectare theme-based amusement park near Meghdoot Garden is also being planned, potentially adding to the city’s leisure and tourism infrastructure, though it is distinct from the Aerocity project. Overall, the initiative could help transform airport proximity into a broader platform for investment, employment and regional growth and strengthen Indore’s role as a regional business gateway.
