Akasa Air to Levy Fuel Surcharge from Today

Akasa Air on Saturday announced that it will introduce a fuel surcharge on both domestic and international flight tickets from today , citing the sharp rise in aviation turbine fuel prices amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

In a statement, the airline said the fuel surcharge will range from ₹199 to ₹1,300 per flight , depending on the duration of the journey . The surcharge will apply to all bookings made from 00:01 hrs today (March 15, 2026) across its domestic and international network.

The development comes as several major Indian carriers have already taken similar steps in response to rising fuel costs. Airlines such as Air India, Air India Express and IndiGo have begun levying fuel surcharges on flight tickets in recent days.

According to Akasa Air, there has been a significant increase in aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices , largely driven by evolving geopolitical developments in West Asia. The airline noted that fuel constitutes a major portion of airline operating costs , making fluctuations in fuel prices a critical factor affecting airline operations.

“As fuel represents a significant portion of airline operating costs, this impacts the cost of operations across the aviation industry,” the airline said.

The airline further stated that it will closely monitor the operating environment and review the fuel surcharge periodically depending on changes in fuel prices and market conditions.

The move reflects the growing pressure on the aviation sector as rising fuel costs and geopolitical tensions continue to influence operational expenses for airlines worldwide. Industry experts note that such surcharges are often introduced temporarily to offset sharp increases in fuel prices.
