Akhilesh Yadav Alleges Missing Ram Temple Funds, Trust Dismisses Concerns

A political controversy has erupted over the finances of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya after Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that crores of rupees from donations offered by devotees were missing. The allegations have intensified calls for greater transparency in the management of religious institutions and their finances.

In a series of posts on social media, Yadav described the reports as a matter of deep concern for devotees of Lord Ram across the world and urged the court to take suo motu cognisance of the issue. He questioned the silence of both the temple trust and the government, arguing that any irregularity involving public donations to one of India's most prominent religious institutions warranted a thorough investigation.

Responding to the allegations, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust general secretary Champat Rai said the trust regularly conducts internal audits in coordination with representatives of the State Bank of India. According to Rai, the audit process is currently underway and no evidence supporting the allegations has emerged so far .

Trust member Mahant Dinendra Das also dismissed concerns about wrongdoing by trustees, expressing confidence in the institution's integrity while stating that any inquiry ordered by authorities would be acceptable .

Yadav later criticised the trust's response as insufficient, calling for all trustees to collectively address the issue and suggesting that donation records and CCTV footage be examined to verify the facts. He argued that a comprehensive explanation was necessary to reassure devotees and maintain public confidence.

The controversy has once again highlighted the importance of financial accountability, transparency mechanisms, and independent oversight in religious institutions that manage large public donations. While the trust maintains that ongoing audits have revealed nothing unusual, the allegations have sparked a broader debate about public trust in faith-based organisations and the safeguards needed to protect it.
