Actor Ali Fazal, best known for his role in the series Mirzapur, turned showstopper for designer Tarun Tahiliani’s menswear brand Tasva at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week, showcasing a contemporary take on traditional Indian attire.

The actor, who turned 40 on Thursday, marked his birthday with a special moment on the runway. Designer Rimple Narula performed a traditional aarti before Fazal made his appearance in an ivory angarkha paired with a structured bandhgala outfit.

The collection reflected Tahiliani’s vision of combining traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes, focusing on comfort, individuality and evolving fashion preferences.

“At Tasva, our approach has always been to make Indian occasion wear feel relevant to the way men dress and celebrate today,” Tahiliani said in a statement.

He added that the collection brought together intricate embroidery techniques, modern interpretations of classic sherwanis and refined tailoring. The aim, he said, was to create clothing that allows the modern groom to celebrate his heritage while expressing his personality.

The showcase featured a palette dominated by beige, complemented by shades of blue, emerald and pink. Models walked the runway wearing coordinated accessories and sunglasses, adding a contemporary edge to the traditional ensembles.

The designs offered fresh interpretations of Indian menswear, with classic sherwanis featuring asymmetrical detailing and sharp tailoring. The collection also included sleek dinner jackets and modern Indo-Western outfits, blending traditional influences with contemporary styling.

The presentation highlighted the growing emphasis on versatile occasion wear that retains cultural elements while catering to the preferences of modern consumers.

The Lakme Fashion Week, organised in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), began on October 13 and will conclude on October 18.
