India's preparations for next month's ODI series against England received a major boost on Sunday after Virat Kohli was named in the national squad, although his participation remains subject to a final fitness clearance.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15 member squad for the three match ODI series in England, with Shubman Gill continuing as captain and senior batter Rohit Sharma also returning to the setup. While Kohli's inclusion is a significant development, the star batter must first pass a fitness assessment scheduled in Bengaluru on Monday before receiving the final green signal.

Kohli has been in impressive form in recent months, and his presence would considerably strengthen India's batting lineup ahead of a challenging overseas assignment. The selection committee has opted for a blend of experience and youth, ensuring both stability and depth across departments.

The batting unit features Rohit, Kohli, Gill and Shreyas Iyer , who has been retained as vice captain. Behind the stumps, selectors have chosen both KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan , offering flexibility in team combinations.

India's all round resources include Washington Sundar , Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy , while the spin attack will be spearheaded by Kuldeep Yadav . The pace department looks formidable with Jasprit Bumrah , Arshdeep Singh , Prasidh Krishna , Harshit Rana and Gurnoor Brar providing multiple options in English conditions.

The ODI series will be played across three iconic venues. The opening match is scheduled at Edgbaston on July 14, followed by the second ODI at Sophia Gardens on July 16. The series will conclude at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground on July 19.

Meanwhile, the BCCI also announced an updated squad for the upcoming T20I series against Ireland after spinner Varun Chakravarthy was ruled out due to a left foot injury. According to the board, the spinner is currently undergoing the final stages of rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence.

Young pacer Prince Yadav has been drafted into the squad as a replacement. The Ireland T20I side will be led by Shreyas Iyer , with Tilak Varma serving as vice captain. Exciting youngster Vaibhav Sooryavanshi , who has been making headlines with his fearless batting, also retains his place in the squad.

With England's tour approaching rapidly, all eyes will now be on Kohli's fitness test. A positive result would hand India a major boost as they look to fine tune their combination and build momentum ahead of a busy international calendar.
