Amaravati Gets Mega Infra Boost as L&T Wins ₹1,280-Crore Quantum Project

The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has approved a series of high-impact infrastructure and technology projects aimed at accelerating the transformation of Amaravati into a modern capital city and a leading hub for innovation, tourism and digital infrastructure. The decisions, taken at the 64th APCRDA Authority meeting chaired by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, mark another significant step in the state's efforts to revive the capital's development and attract long-term investments.

Among the key approvals, engineering giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) secured the contract for the ₹1,280-crore Quantum Facility Project, which is expected to anchor Andhra Pradesh's ambitious Quantum Valley initiative. The project aligns with India's National Quantum Mission and is expected to attract research institutions, deep-tech companies and high-value investments in emerging technologies.

To improve urban mobility and tourism, APCRDA also cleared an iconic ropeway project under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The proposed ropeway will connect Vijayawada Railway Station, Pandit Nehru Bus Station, Kanaka Durga Temple, Punnami Ghat, Bhavani Island and the Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Amaravati, offering faster connectivity while boosting the region's tourism potential.

The authority further approved land acquisition for the proposed Inner Ring Road and a new railway line, while farmers of Mothadaka village in Guntur district agreed to bring 2,344 acres under the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS). APCRDA also decided to invite tenders for a 20-MW data centre and issue RFPs for installing 5G towers at 20 locations, reinforcing Amaravati's vision of becoming a digitally connected smart city.

The long-pending HappyNest Housing Project will be revived, with AP RERA restoration fees waived to reduce the financial burden on homebuyers affected by delays. The authority also approved the release of ₹122 crore as compensation to the Endowments Department for 244.39 acres brought under the Land Pooling Scheme, besides ratifying the loan process to clear ₹300 crore in pending annual lease payments to farmers.

In addition, APCRDA approved a proposal to study the feasibility of an iconic bridge across the Krishna River to meet future transport needs and decided to form an expert committee to ensure government buildings and public infrastructure reflect Telugu culture, heritage and architectural traditions. With technology-driven investments, improved connectivity and culturally inspired urban planning, the latest approvals reinforce the state's vision of positioning Amaravati as a globally competitive capital city.
