The Amarnath Yatra is progressing smoothly in Jammu and Kashmir, with thousands of devotees continuing their pilgrimage to the holy cave shrine amid tight security arrangements and weather monitoring .

A fresh batch of 9,837 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Wednesday, making it the largest batch of the season so far . The group included 7,004 men, 2,810 women, 21 children and two transgender pilgrims .

Of the total, 4,480 devotees travelled via the Baltal route , while 5,354 pilgrims took the traditional Pahalgam route . Authorities said security forces have maintained a multi-layer security cover along the routes, with surveillance, checkpoints, medical facilities and rescue teams deployed to ensure pilgrim safety.

Officials are closely monitoring weather conditions in the Himalayan region , advising devotees to remain cautious due to sudden changes in high-altitude areas.

Since the yatra began on July 2 , a total of 44,666 pilgrims have departed from Jammu , while over 1.15 lakh devotees have offered prayers at the 3,880-metre-high Amarnath cave shrine . The 57-day pilgrimage will conclude on August 28 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan .
