As thousands of devotees prepare to embark on the annual Amarnath Yatra , Jammu witnessed a spiritually vibrant evening on Wednesday with Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurating the Tawi Aarti and Light and Sound Show , a new initiative aimed at offering pilgrims a memorable and devotional welcome before the sacred pilgrimage begins.

The inauguration took place on the eve of the departure of the first batch of pilgrims from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp , transforming the banks of the Tawi River into a glowing symbol of faith and cultural celebration. Alongside the evening ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor also inaugurated an Amarnath Yatra exhibition , showcasing the significance and history of the annual pilgrimage.

Adding to the day's initiatives, Sinha launched 'Raahi: Hop Jammu' Bus Service , an environmentally friendly transport service introduced by the Jammu district administration. The service is designed to help both residents and tourists explore the city's rich cultural heritage, historical landmarks and recreational attractions with greater convenience.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor described the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra as a powerful symbol of India's unity, bringing together people from different regions, languages and traditions through a shared spirit of devotion to Lord Shiva .

He said that with the pilgrimage set to commence within hours, the entire region resonates with chants of Lord Shiva while the illuminated banks of the Tawi reflect the deep spiritual energy associated with the yatra. Extending his greetings to all devotees, he invited pilgrims from across the country to participate in the sacred journey.

Sinha highlighted that the Tawi Aarti , rooted in ancient traditions, represents spiritual consciousness, social harmony and cultural unity. He announced that the aarti will be performed every evening throughout the Amarnath Yatra, with every lamp symbolising hope, purity, renewal and unwavering faith.

The Lieutenant Governor also praised Jammu Smart City Limited for developing the Tawi riverfront , saying that an area once overlooked has now evolved into a lively destination celebrating culture, spirituality and community life. According to him, the rejuvenated riverfront reflects Jammu's historic identity as a centre of spiritual learning and cultural heritage.

Calling for public participation in keeping the city clean and welcoming, Sinha shared his vision of transforming Jammu into a globally recognised destination for spiritual tourism , cultural studies and sustainable urban development. He said the Tawi riverfront should emerge as a model where environmental conservation, modern infrastructure and cultural traditions coexist harmoniously, creating a unique example of balanced development.

With enhanced facilities, improved civic infrastructure and new cultural initiatives, Jammu has set the stage for welcoming lakhs of pilgrims expected to undertake one of India's most revered spiritual journeys in the coming weeks.
