Amritsar to Get Grand Temple Dedicated to Mata Sita, Luv and Kush, Announces Kejriwal
Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday announced that a grand Mata Sita , Luv and Kush temple will be built in Amritsar , with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann assuring that the state government will leave no stone unturned to complete the project. The proposed temple will come up next to the Lord Valmiki temple, a site closely associated with the Ramayana according to local tradition.
Making the announcement during the Ek Shaam Bhagwan Shivji Ke Naam devotional programme in Amritsar, Kejriwal said he had returned from Ayodhya after offering prayers at the Ram Mandir and was delighted to announce the project. He described it as significant not only for Amritsar but also for devotees of Lord Ram and Mata Janaki across the world.
Kejriwal said Amritsar is home to the Durgiana Mandir , Jallianwala Bagh , the Wagah Border , and the place where Maharishi Valmiki is believed to have written the Ramayana. He also referred to the belief that Mata Sita lived there, Luv and Kush were born and educated there, and that the brothers stopped Lord Ram's Ashwamedha Yagna horse at the same location.
Mann said the proposed temple would become a major centre of faith , religious tourism , and pilgrimage, attracting devotees from India and abroad.
Kejriwal also announced the expansion of the Mukh Mantri Teerath Yatra Yojna , adding three new pilgrimage circuits covering Salasar and Khatu Shyam Ji , Haridwar and Rishikesh , and Mathura and Vrindavan . The new routes are expected to begin around August 1 , with nearly 1.5 lakh pilgrims benefiting from the free pilgrimage scheme.
In addition, he announced that the theatrical production Hamare Ram , featuring actor Ashutosh Rana , will be staged across Punjab from August 1 with free entry for the public. The Ek Shaam Bhagwan Shivji Ke Naam devotional programme, which began in Jalandhar , will also be organised across all 22 cities of Punjab.
Kejriwal further said the Punjab government is redeveloping the Kali Mata Temple in Patiala at a cost of ₹80 crore , with the project expected to be completed by September. He said the renovated temple is expected to become one of the largest temple complexes in North India.
