Andhra Pradesh is set for a fresh political contest in the legislature, with the Assembly and Legislative Council scheduled to meet from August 17 for the monsoon session. The short session comes at a crucial time, with the government pushing major policy reforms and development initiatives while the Opposition is expected to raise issues concerning governance and public welfare.

Governor S. Abdul Nazeer has issued the notification summoning both Houses. The Assembly will meet at 9 am, followed by the Legislative Council at 10 am at Velagapudi in Amaravati on the opening day. The session is expected to run for around four days, though the final duration and detailed agenda will be decided by the Business Advisory Committees (BACs) of the two Houses. The BACs are scheduled to meet on August 17 to determine the sitting schedule and prioritise legislative and public-interest business.

The government enters the session with several major decisions already cleared by the Cabinet. The proposed PPP Policy-2026 and Ease of Doing Business Act-2026 are expected to receive attention as the State seeks to attract private investment and accelerate infrastructure development. The withdrawal of the Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill, 2019, could also become a politically sensitive issue. The government has cited the implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other new criminal laws while moving to withdraw the earlier legislation.

Amaravati's development is expected to be another major talking point. The Cabinet has approved ₹1,002.49 crore for the Quantum Valley Twin Towers, strengthening the government's plans to position the capital as a technology and innovation hub. Members are also likely to raise questions on development works, welfare programmes, infrastructure projects and the implementation of government policies. Issues affecting farmers and other sections of society could feature prominently depending on the agenda finalised by the BACs.

The upcoming sitting will mark the 50th monsoon session of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, adding symbolic importance to the proceedings. With the government seeking to showcase its development agenda and the Opposition preparing to scrutinise its performance, the brief session could witness sharp political exchanges. Within a limited timeframe, Bills, public grievances, policy decisions and major development projects are expected to shape the legislative debate.
