Andhra Pradesh Flags Fake Recruitment Agents Targeting Youth for Russian Army
The Andhra Pradesh government has sounded an alert over fraudulent overseas recruitment networks allegedly luring Indian youngsters to Russia with promises of lucrative employment, warning that unsuspecting job seekers could end up being forced into military service under dangerous circumstances. The warning comes amid growing concerns over incidents in which Indians are reportedly sent abroad on the pretext of civilian employment but subsequently pushed into military-related activities.
The government said that North Andhra has emerged as a particular target for illegal recruitment agents and certain private training institutes. These operators reportedly approach unemployed youth with attractive salary packages, better career prospects and assurances of quick overseas placements. By presenting foreign employment as an easy route to financial stability, they persuade youngsters to travel without adequately explaining the actual nature of the jobs.
However, the situation can change drastically once the candidates reach Russia. According to the government, there have been disturbing reports of youngsters being pressured into joining the Russian military. Some are allegedly offered high salaries to accept military assignments, while others are reportedly threatened with false criminal cases and forced to participate in military operations against their wishes.
The government expressed serious concern over the consequences of such recruitment practices, pointing out that they place young Indians in life-threatening situations. Families who send their children abroad expecting better employment opportunities are also left facing uncertainty, anxiety and emotional distress.
The government has urged students, unemployed youth and aspiring overseas job seekers not to fall for unrealistic salary promises, attractive advertisements or assurances of immediate foreign employment. Offers that involve simplified recruitment procedures and unusually quick departures should be treated with caution.
It has specifically warned against relying on unregistered training centres and unauthorised recruitment agents. Before accepting any overseas offer, candidates must independently verify the employment contract, visa category, job responsibilities and credentials of the recruiting organisation through authorised agencies.
The government has also called for particular vigilance against arrangements that disguise military recruitment as civilian employment or involve pressure to undergo military training after reaching a foreign country.
Anyone encountering suspicious recruitment offers or agents has been advised to bring the matter to the attention of government authorities or the police. The government stressed that careful background checks and official verification must precede every overseas employment decision.
