Andhra Pradesh Government Constitutes SIT To Probe Sai Krishna Missing Case
The Andhra Pradesh government on Sunday constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a comprehensive probe into the disappearance of Gade Sai Krishna, a case that has triggered widespread public concern and serious allegations against a suspended police officer.
The decision comes amid accusations that Krishna Lanka Police Inspector Nagaraju , who has already been placed under suspension, illegally detained Sai Krishna, subjected him to custodial torture, and was involved in his death. The victim’s family has also alleged that evidence was destroyed by carrying out the cremation without informing relatives.
According to a government order issued on Sunday, the SIT has been tasked with investigating allegations of illegal confinement, custodial violence, murder, and destruction of evidence . The government said the special team was being formed to ensure a transparent, impartial and credible investigation into the matter.
The move follows a complaint lodged by Sai Krishna’s family and recommendations submitted by Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta . Cases have already been registered against the suspended inspector under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) .
The SIT will be headed by Inspector General M. Ravi Prakash . Other members include West Godavari Superintendent of Police Adnan Nayeem Asmi , Alluri Sitarama Raju district SP Amit Bardar , and Bapatla Additional SP L. Sudhakar .
The government said the SIT would exercise all investigative powers available under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 , and other applicable laws. The team has been authorised to appoint an investigating officer, seek technical and forensic assistance, and utilise all resources necessary for the inquiry.
The Director General of Police has been directed to provide the SIT with office space, logistical support and transportation facilities. The government has also instructed forensic laboratories and all relevant departments to extend full cooperation to the investigation.
While stressing the need for an expeditious inquiry, the government has not fixed any specific deadline for the SIT to submit its report.
