Animesh Kujur Breaks Overseas Mark With 10.14s Sprint, Takes Second Place in Germany
Commonwealth Games-bound sprinter Animesh Kujur delivered a stunning performance by recording the fastest-ever 100m time by an Indian on foreign soil , finishing second at the Fast Arms Fast Legs meet, a World Athletics Continental Tour Challenger event.
The 23-year-old clocked a brilliant 10.14 seconds in the final on Friday, improving on the 10.19 seconds he had posted in the heats earlier in the day. His effort not only marked a new personal best but also became the second-fastest 100m ever run by an Indian , behind Gurindervir Singh’s national record of 10.09 seconds , set at the Federation Cup in Ranchi in May.
Kujur’s latest achievement further underlines his growing stature in Indian athletics. Before Gurindervir’s record-breaking run earlier this year, Kujur himself had held the national record in the 100m. With the 10.14-second performance, he now owns three of the five fastest timings ever recorded by an Indian in the event .
Primarily known as a 200m specialist , Kujur is also the national record holder in that discipline. His rapid progress in the shorter sprint has added a new dimension to his career and strengthened hopes of a strong international showing.
The timing comes at an ideal moment as the young sprinter prepares for his Commonwealth Games debut later this month in Glasgow . Having consistently pushed the boundaries of Indian sprinting, Kujur heads into the prestigious multi-sport event with confidence and momentum after producing one of the finest performances of his career on the European circuit.
