Anmol Leads India’s Charge as Six Shuttlers Storm Macau Open Pre-Quarterfinals
India's young badminton brigade delivered an impressive performance at the Macau Open Super 300 , with several players advancing to the pre-quarterfinals and keeping the country's hopes alive across singles and mixed doubles events.
Leading the charge was Anmol Kharb , who produced a commanding display against Indonesia's Mutiara Ayu Puspitasari. The eighth-seeded Indian barely put a foot wrong as she cruised to a 21-13, 21-16 victory in 42 minutes to secure a place in the last 16 . The 19-year-old, who reached the quarterfinals of the Denmark Challenge last month, continued her encouraging form and will next face Malaysia's Goh Jin Wei.
Rakshitha Sree Ramraj also enjoyed a successful outing, defeating Malaysia's Kisona Selvaduray 21-16, 24-22 in a hard fought contest. Her ability to stay calm during a tense second game proved decisive as she booked a meeting with South Korea's Kim Min Sun.
In an all Indian clash, seventh seed Shriyanshi Valishetty overcame Tasnim Mir 21-18, 19-21, 21-15 in a thrilling three game battle. The victory highlighted the growing strength and depth of Indian women's badminton on the international stage.
India's women's singles campaign received a further boost through Ashmita Chaliha , who registered a notable win over sixth seed Tung Ciou-Tong of Chinese Taipei. Ashmita won the opening game and was leading comfortably in the second before her opponent retired. Fifth seed Isharani Baruah also progressed after battling past Hung Yi-Ting of Chinese Taipei in three games.
In men's singles, Rounak Chouhan displayed remarkable fighting spirit, recovering from a game down to defeat Wu Zhe Ying of Chinese Taipei. Tharun Mannepalli also advanced after rallying past fellow Indian Rithvik Sanjeevi Satish Kumar in three games.
The mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Shruti Mishra produced one of the most dominant performances of the day, overwhelming Germany's Calvin Devereux and Desiree Toepffer 21-4, 21-6 in just 16 minutes.
While players such as Kiran George , Shreya Lele , and Aakarshi Kashyap bowed out, India's overall showing remained highly encouraging. With multiple shuttlers reaching the pre-quarterfinals, the country continues to showcase a promising generation capable of making a significant impact on the international badminton circuit.
