‘Another Day, Another Paper Leak’: Congress Slams Centre Over Gujarat BAMS Exam Row

The Congress on Monday criticised the BJP-led Centre over reports of a suspected BAMS question paper leak at Gujarat Ayurved University in Jamnagar, with party general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh alleging that paper leaks have become a systemic problem.

Ramesh shared a media report on X claiming that details related to the Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) 'Shalya Tantra-1' examination were allegedly circulated on WhatsApp before the test. The reports have reportedly triggered concern and protests at the university.

Calling it another instance of a wider problem, Ramesh said, "Another day another paper leak, this time in the Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar." He alleged that Gujarat witnessed 34 paper leaks between 2014 and 2024, citing examinations including the GPSC Chief Officer's Paper, Talati examinations, Teacher Aptitude Test, Mukhya Sevika, Nayab Chitnis, Lokarakshak Dal, Non-Secretariat Clerk, Head Clerk and Forest Guard exams, among others.

Ramesh also alleged that the 2024 Uttar Pradesh Police recruitment examination paper leak was orchestrated from Ahmedabad, though the claim remains a political allegation.

Targeting the BJP government in Gujarat, the Congress leader alleged that the state had become the "epicentre of all paper leaks in India." He further criticised the Centre's approach to tackling examination irregularities, arguing that fast-track courts alone would not address the underlying issues.

According to Ramesh, the government's proposed fast-track courts are not a solution to the systemic problem but a diversion from the need for deeper reforms. He called for a broader discussion on strengthening the country's examination and education systems to prevent paper leaks and restore confidence among students and aspirants.

The allegations surrounding the Gujarat Ayurved University examination are expected to bring renewed focus on examination security and the mechanisms in place to prevent question paper leaks.
