Another Injured Worker Dies In Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Accident, Toll Rises To 10

The death toll in the tragic accident at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant has risen to 10 , after another injured worker succumbed to severe burn injuries while undergoing treatment on Saturday afternoon.

According to health officials, the deceased worker, identified as Suri Babu , had sustained critical burns covering nearly 95–100 per cent of his body in the incident that occurred on June 8. He passed away at around 1 pm while receiving medical care. Officials added that another worker had earlier died on June 10 due to complications arising from injuries sustained in the same accident.

The industrial mishap, which took place on June 8 evening, initially claimed the lives of eight workers on the spot , while six others were injured , several of them critically. With the latest death, the overall fatalities have now reached ten.

Of the injured workers, two had already been discharged after recovery. Two others remain under treatment in hospital, and doctors have described their condition as stable but under close observation .

The incident has raised serious concerns over workplace safety at the steel plant, one of the country’s major public sector industrial units operated under Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) .

In response to the tragedy, Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan announced a compensation package for the affected families. He stated that the families of the deceased will receive ₹25 lakh each , along with employment for one eligible family member at the plant.

For regular employees who lost their lives, total benefits including statutory and departmental provisions will amount to ₹1.72 crore per family , while families of contract workers will receive ₹45.75 lakh each , he said.

Authorities have indicated that a detailed inquiry into the cause of the accident is underway.
